Secrets will begin to surface and Leo will discover that his struggle for Diccittidel doesn’t just include going through the council members. Christian will throw another obstacle his way, a being so deadly that it’s never been released on earth…until now.
Can Leo save himself, his girlfriend, his friends and the very world they all live in? Or will he watch them all BURN?

Michael Dean was born in Mountain View California in 1976, raised in Tucson Arizona, and now resides just outside of Dallas Texas.

Michael’s adventurous style has led him to start and run a successful small business for the past ten years, as well as writing YA novels and playing music. His passion for music and the pen collided when he was younger, causing him to pick up a guitar and write his own music. That drive led him to starting his own band, getting it played on regional radio stations, even competing in Ozzy Osbourne’s battle for Ozzfest in New York City.

Still just as driven, now he prefers quieter days to himself, thus giving him time to improve on his main passion, writing. Drift, a YA paranormal fantasy, is a bi-product of that alone time. He hopes that when a reader picks up his works, he or she will love it just as much as he did writing it.

Someone pressed himself against Michaela’s back, his hands twining around her stomach. She felt his lips on her neck, his breath in her ear. He said something, but Michaela couldn’t hear. Clark cocked an eyebrow at her and moved away slightly to dance with a petite girl in a fox costume. Michaela twisted in the man’s arms so that they were face to face. He was tall and lanky and definitely human. The pupils of his eyes were huge, dilated far beyond normal, and Michaela smelled the musky hint of drugs seeping from his mouth. His hands roamed over her body, groping her ass. There was no room to get away; the bodies in the middle of the floor were pressed so close together. For a moment, panic flooded through Michaela’s veins. Sure she could knock this guy out with one hit, but she didn’t want to bring attention to herself. She looked around, realizing that everyone was experiencing the same sort of free will she was. She had no clue how the human girls dealt with this sort of invasion. In her distraction, she didn’t realize the man in front of her was about to kiss her until the second before his lips smashed into hers. Immediately, his tongue pressed into her mouth, forcing her lips to part. His tangy salvia pooled at the back of her throat and gagged her. His hand slid up her side to fist around her breast. In that appalling moment, Michaela realized two things. The first being that Gabriel, who was very new to the whole sex thing, was very, very good at the sex thing. And the second being…Gabriel. He stood in all his tall, dark glory behind the man sucking on Michaela’s tongue. Lifting his hand as if he was going to tap on the man’s shoulder and ask to cut in, Gabriel pressed a finger onto on the man’s shoulder, making him instantly sag to the floor. Gabriel pressed harder into the pressure point on the guy’s neck until he was nearly on the floor and completely disengaged from Michaela. It was quiet and efficient. Gabriel righted the man and set him aside before he made too much of a scene. In the mass of pulsing bodies and underneath the flashing storm of rainbow lights, it was unnoticeable. The man moved away, slightly stunned and confused, but without a backwards glance. Michaela shrugged sheepishly at Gabriel’s blank stare. Only because she was looking at his mouth was she able to read his lips as he spoke. “Don’t kiss anyone else.”

“Oh Jesus.”
If it weren’t for the tone in Jess’ voice, Saia wouldn’t have been pulled from watching the human male across the room.
Jess placed a hand across her eyes and shook her head slowly.
“Pardon me?”
Jess groaned. “Please, please look at something else.”
Saia let her gaze go back to the male. His black hair was cut short. His blue eyes were framed with an abundance of dark lashes. Light seemed to dance in his eyes as he smiled in her direction.
Is he smiling at me?
She took a quick peek left then right
He’s smiling at me!
Her heart leapt for joy. His graceful smile was only for her. She giggled and placed a hand over her mouth.
“He won’t be satisfied until he’s dead,” Jess muttered.
She turned to Jess. “What are you talking about?”
Jess watched the male across the room as well. But instead of smiling, she made a slow motion across her neck with a finger. “I’m referring to the slow death he’s sure to get if he keeps flirting with you.”
Flirting?
She turned back to the male. No one had ever flirted with her. She smiled again.
“Good gracious, don’t encourage him!”
“Do you know him?”
“Unfortunately, yes.” Jess rolled her eyes. “Maybe I should start saying that I knew him.”
The lights turned low, signaling the beginning of the dinner entertainment. The voices in the dining hall became hushed. Saia strained her eyes to make out the silhouette of the human.
Slow, rhythmic drums began to beat. Light shone from the stage door. One torch, then two, then three, until finally there were six. In the darkness, the torches zipped through the air, swung in circles, tossed and caught.
Every now and again, she could catch a glimpse of him and found that he still watched her as well.
Her heart seemed to thump in time with the drums. His smile had dropped but his stare was intent just the same. His gaze seemed to bore through her. Right to her soul. And she found she enjoyed it.
She leaned over to whisper, “Tell me his name.”
Jess shook her head. “Ignore him like I do most days and watch the show.”
Ignore him? She couldn’t. “But I want to know his name.”
Jess looked at her. “Listen, Princess Saia, this can’t happen.”
“What can’t happen?”
“You and JB. Taio would never allow it. You’re getting married and JB’s going back to Laconia. I’m trying to keep him alive at least until then.”
Jaybee. She turned to look at him again.
Jaybee. What a wonderful name.
“Argh, can you at least get that dreamy look off your face?”
“Is he a slave?”
“No.”
“Is he bonded?”
“No.”
“Can you introduce me to him?”
“Absolutely not.”
“Why?”
Jess raised a brow. “Have you seen the size of your brother?”
Jess was right. Taio was extremely protective of her. That was the very reason why she could never tell him their father had long been striking her and her mother. And she couldn’t forget that she was contracted to bond with Ranuit Pi.
And just like that, an overwhelming sense of dread had ahold of her once again.
There could be no flirting. No smiles from across the room as she’d heard described on many occasions from people who had fallen in love. Her fate belonged to someone else.

I was born and raised in the Baltimore Metropolitan area but my family is originally from Rhode Island. I spent summers in New England with my grandparents, which probably sparked my fascination with Salem, MA. I started writing fictional stories and poems in middle school. In fact I had notebooks and notebooks full of incomplete stories and poems. One of which I managed to hold on to and is safely stashed in a box under my bed. When I was in seventh grade I entered a poetry contest in the back of an Archie comic and won, after that I was hooked on writing after that. Amazingly it took almost two decades to find a voice for my snarky, ass kicking heroine Maurin Kincaide and complete my first length novel. Meeting the love of your life and raising three amazing children together must have caused a rift in time because I still can't believe it's gone by so quickly. I'm fortunate to have an loving and supportive family who don't mind sharing me with all the other people in my head.

Series Spotlight: Ward of the Vampire by Kallysten!

Ward of the Vampire serial

It’s THE party of the season. Socialites, artists and A-list stars have been invited to Morgan Ward’s birthday bash, including Angelina’s boss, Delilah.
For months, Angelina has been looking at the preparations from afar, but never did she imagine that, come the day, Miss Delilah would put her in a gorgeous gown and bring her along as her ‘plus one.’
She also never imagined that Miss Delilah and her brother were vampires, able to compel her to remain in the mansion against her will long after the party ended, or to draw her into incredibly real, dizzyingly sexy fantasies.
And she certainly never imagined that, little by little, she’d fall in love with her reluctant, standoffish host, and manage to peel back his armor to uncover his past – and his heart.

Introduction:

In January, I released Homeward, the 5th and final part of the Ward of the Vampire serial. It concluded the serial after almost a year of regular releases, and brought together the characters, narrator Angelina and the myterious vampire, Morgan Ward. When they first met, angelina certainly didn't imagine she'd take a liking to him... especially since that encounter almost caused her death! Here's an excerpt from that first meeting...

Feeling a little lightheaded, I looked around for a bit of quiet and solitude, but guests were everywhere. When I passed by heavy curtains, I lifted a corner, and was almost relieved to get a glimpse of a balcony behind a window.
I checked that no one was paying attention to me, then slipped behind the curtain and opened the window. It was only when I stepped onto the balcony that I realized someone was already there.
He was leaning forward, one elbow resting on the ornate stone balustrade, his chin propped in his palm. His hair was darker than ink. When he glanced back, I barely saw the cigarette hanging from his lips.
My eyes went straight to his, and I couldn’t suppress a quiet gasp. They were so dark that they seemed completely black. I knew it was only because of the lack of light, but just the same, that look made me shiver. That, and the cold December air. He didn’t seem to mind the cold at all. He’d taken his tuxedo jacket off, and it rested on the balustrade next to him.
“The freaking party’s inside,” he said in an exhalation of smoke, looking away again. “Go back in and leave me the hell alone.”
At any other time, I’d have stammered an apology and gone back in. I honestly don’t know what came over me. Maybe it was the champagne. Maybe I simply couldn’t stand going back to all that noise, all those people quite yet. Maybe it was the smoke; I quit a long time ago, but when I’m stressed I still crave nicotine. Or maybe I was just tired of doing what other people told me to.

“I don’t think so,” I replied, stepping to the other end of the balcony, as far away from him and from that delicious smoke as I could. “Why go in and enjoy the company of so many pleasant people when I can be out here with a jerk?”

I was looking down at the park on the other side of the street, but from the corner of my eye I could see him turn his face to me, the end of the cigarette flaring bright red when he sucked in a breath.

“Why indeed inflict such charm on them,” he drawled, “when you can focus it on me? Name your price, already and go.”

I turned fully toward him, outraged. “My price?” I repeated, probably in a too loud voice. “My price for what? Who do you think I am?”

“I have no idea whatsoever who you are,” he said, looking away from me again. “But I know your kind. I know why you come to parties like this, showing skin halfway down to your navel.”

I gasped in disbelief, my free hand instinctively coming up to the exposed skin above the top of my gown. Compared to some other décolleté dresses I’d seen that night, mine was nothing if not conservative. And it definitely didn’t go down to my navel.

“How dare you,” I started, but he wasn’t finished.

“Your kind only wants two things. To meet famous people or to swindle money out of them. Either go back in or name your price. Or would you rather I get you thrown out of my home?”

My outrage and protests vanished in the time of a heartbeat, as I understood who he was.

My home, he’d said.

I shuddered as I remembered Miss Delilah’s admonition. She’d told me to be nice. And instead…

My heart jumped to my throat. My chest constricted until I couldn’t breathe anymore. Every inch of my body felt as though my skin were being sliced with shards of glass.

I knew only two things in that instant. I was in front of Morgan Ward, my host, Miss Delilah’s brother, whom I’d been rude to. And I was about to die.

Installments:

The serial is available either in 5 installments (Ward of the Vampire, My Reluctant Warden, Awkward Holidays, The Coward's WAy Out and Homeward) or one volume titled Ward of the Vampire - complete serial.
