Review: Saddles and Spells by M.R. Polish!

It was the Curse’s fault. There was no other explanation why Alice Young woke up married to a complete stranger.
After generations of witches in her family succumbing to the Legend of the Lonely Witch, aka the Curse, Alice refuses to surrender her magic to the land. And that’s exactly what will happen if she doesn’t find true love. Stupid cliché hex anyway.
Reese Mahoney doesn’t understand what he’s doing in Nevada. He should be on his way back to Wyoming. Back to the land he loves. But one night in Vegas changed everything. Now he’s torn between his dream of owning his own ranch and doing what’s right. Only problem is that his dreams are changing and he’s determined to help the woman he can legally call his wife be happy. Except, it’s a little hard when she turns down every attempt he makes.

Saddles and Spells is the perfect read for a summer day! It's a heart-warming story about true love that has something for everyone. Sassy witches and handsome cowboys mixed together with just the right amount of magic and sweet romance (with bits of humor, action, and mystery thrown in) with a HEA! The story reads like a contemporary romance-it is a fast read that flows easily- though there are lots of paranormal elements- curses and magic. It's a great combination and makes for a really enjoyable story.

I loved the way the story was set up- the couple meets in Vegas and wind up married after a crazy night. I really enjoyed watching the characters get to know and fall for one another even after they are married. S&S is more sweet than sexy, but I found that refreshing. There needs to be more stories like this one!

This was a cute start to the series and I can't wait until some of the other witches find true love in their own stories!

Hannah and Gabriel have always gotten along, first as friends, then as co-workers. She manages his life and he protects hers. A perfect, symbiotic relationship, so it would seem, until suppressed feelings for each other surface and forever change the landscape of their lives. Author Interview Daniele Lanzarotta!

Tell my fans a little bit about yourself and your books.

My name is Daniele Lanzarotta and I love reading and writing paranormal novels. I’m the author of young adult and new adult novels, including the Academy of the Fallen Series, Imprinted Souls Series and A Mermaid’s Curse Trilogy.

How would you introduce your books to someone that has yet to read them?

My first series was the Imprinted Souls Series, which is a vampire series with a heavy focus on reincarnation, blood ties, and destiny. One of my characters from this series is a vampire-fallen angel hybrid who really sparked my interest in fallen angels. That is when I started writing the Academy of the Fallen Series.

The concept of the Academy of the Fallen is that with so many angels falling, there were very few angels left to protect the human world. The Academy is the place where they get a second chance, mostly by protecting haunted kids/teens from demons and ghosts.

And then, there is the Mermaid’s Curse, which takes place mostly in the human world. This trilogy is full of romance and drama!

What inspired you to start writing? What age did you start?

I have always enjoyed writing, but didn’t take it seriously until I was 28. I started writing fan-fictions at first, but soon realized that I needed my own characters and was eager to create new worlds. That is when I sat down and wrote my first book.

What do you enjoy doing when you’re not writing?
Reading, watching movies, watching hockey games…

What advice would you give to an aspiring author?

Write everyday and write what you love.

What’s your favorite scene/line from your works?

I really dislike this question. *laughs* I feel like all my favorite scenes give something away, but here is one of my favorite lines, which is from Bloodlust – Imprinted Souls Series 2: “"Bloodlust – the disease that makes us the monsters we are known to be; it is what wipes away the last of our humanity."

What's the hardest thing about writing? The easiest?
The hardest thing is probably to let go of some characters. I get too attached. The easiest is falling in love with new characters and letting them take over the story.

What are you currently reading?

Burned by Karen Marie Moning.

What are you currently working on?
A young adult novel called Sudden Hope.

What books did you read as a child?
I don’t remember having much time to read as a child, well, besides books for school. I remember having huge science books. *shivers* I do remember reading Dracula.

How has your life changed since you began writing?

It’s definitely busier. I get to travel more and visit new places, and my favorite part… meeting new readers!

Do you listen to music while you write?

Always!

Out of all of your characters, who is your favorite?

I have so many favorites! I can’t answer this question. *laughs* But one of my top favorites is Nicholas from my vampire series. He is so sarcastic and so much fun to write.

You’re stranded on a desert island. What books do you take with you?
The Hunger Games Trilogy and The Edge of Never.

What book(s) do you wish you would have written?
Gone with the Wind.

What is your dream vacation destination?
Italy

Do you have any interesting dreams or goals?
I have a few… One is that I want to write about as many different supernatural beings as possible.

Where do you see yourself in five years?
Still writing, but hopefully producing movies too.

If someone wrote a biography about you, what do you think the title should be?
Hmm ‘The Ninja’ Ha. I tend to overload my schedule. People often ask how I get so much stuff done and I say it’s because I’m on ninja mode.

Arianna always felt like she didn't belong in the world where she was born. Ever since she was little, she used to hide behind the rocks in the sea, and watch the human family who spent their summers on that island. Over the years, there was nothing she wished more than to be like them, especially so she could get close to Blake, the human boy who she saw turn into a troubled teenager and then, an unhappy man. Once her dad grew tired of her dreams and hopes for a reality that is not her own, Arianna is thrown into an arranged marriage, and her only way out of it is to make a deal with the power-hungry man who will give her everything that she has ever dreamed of. Dreams that turn into nightmares as she watches Blake's world fall apart, because of her and Blake's inability to control their desires for one another.

Kayla is a 16-year-old girl who was adopted when she was little. She lives a normal life, with great friends, loving adoptive parents, and well...a not-so-great boyfriend. But the reason why she was given up for adoption was far from any usual reason. She was meant to be kept away from the Academy and anything else related to the supernatural beings that could hurt her.
Unfortunately for Kayla, it was only a matter of time before she encountered the creatures from the Otherworld, and there is just no running away from the beings that she can now see. In trying to protect Kayla by keeping her away from the Academy, she may have just been put in even more danger.

Daniele Lanzarotta is the author of paranormal/fantasy novels, including the Imprinted Souls Series, Academy of the Fallen, and Mermaid's Curse.

She has a bachelor's in business and finance and a MBA. With only a few semesters left in school, Daniele started writing as a hobby, but it didn't take long for her to be consumed by her stories. That is her passion, and she now has several projects under way.

She enjoys reading and writing young adult novels with just about any sort of paranormal or supernatural bent...vampires... ghosts... She also enjoys watching hockey, playing rock band, guitar hero and spending time with the family.

 FROM REDEMPTION BY BONNIE VANAK

ìNo questions.î Robert folded his hands upon the desktop. ìNot even a hint of curiosity? Cadeyrn told you what I am. Are you afraid of me? According to him, Iím one of those dangerous, vicious alpha wolves.î
Her new master flicked out a claw and dragged it across the pristine desktop, then over the paper detailing her life. The crackle of paper and the gouging of wood rattled her self-composure. Aurora recovered and stared at him.
ìAre you going to kill and eat me, or should I get started on the laundry?î
He blinked hard, and the hint of a smile played on his firm mouth. ìI donít eat Mages, although I have heard they are quite tasty with a garnish of almond butter. And I do my own laundry.î
A sense of humor. She cautioned herself against it. The witch had told jokes at dinnertime. Sheíd laughed and then, an instant later, would slam an iron bar against Auroraís hand as she set down a plate of bread and butter.
The alpha leaned forward, stretching the material of his navy long-sleeved shirt, rolled up at the forearms. As the material shifted, she saw the edges of a familiar tattoo on his tanned neck. Auroraís hopes leapt. Sign of the dragon. Surely this enslavement could provide the key to freedom.
He folded his arms across his chest and leaned back. ìWho am I?î
She knew his background, from the briefing given to her two nights ago upon her arrival, before Melanie had locked her in the abandoned barn.
ìRobert Keynes, alpha of the Keynes pack, one of the few red Lupine packs in the United States. Youíre thirty-four, own a botanical nursery and grow tropical plants and trees. There are eighty-two members of your pack,î Aurora recited as if she were in a classroom.
ìEighty-one.î The coolness of his dark eyes remained. ìMolly, my niece and my heir, has gone with her mate to the Mitchell pack in Montana.î
A tight knot formed in her belly. Cadeyrn had given her to Robert as a breeder. The Lupine needed an heir of his blood.
ìYou have no mate?î
A shadow crossed his face. ìNo.î
Surprise filled her. Lupines were a sensual people who enjoyed frequent sex. The urge to mate and breed ran strong in them.
ìWhy not?î
His mouth curved in a cold smile. ìIím waiting for the right woman.î
Then he pushed up from his chair and despite her bravado, she quivered. Robert stood well over six feet. His sheer physical presence made her very much aware of him as a man. He was extremely handsome, with a shock of silver threaded liberally through the black strands of his hair. Premature silver. She wondered if it had been caused byÖ
The very something that could set her free, and free her sister Emily as well. Her pulse pounded with sudden excitement. Had she finally found the man marked by the dragon?
ìI need to breed an heir.î His gaze swept over her in a lingering caress that made her shiver with awareness. ìThis is why Cadeyrn gave you to me as a gift. Youíre Mage, healthy and just entering the prime of your child-bearing years. He thinks you can produce strong offspring.î
She had lived years as a slave, working many hours to serve her masters in the house, even in the fields, as the ogre had a fancy for farming. But never in their beds.
Aurora gathered her emotions and stuffed them deep inside. Her body did not matter. Only Emily did. Her sister was living with a foster family. She must stay safe.
If it meant lying coldly beneath this wolf and conceiving his child, so be it. He was her master. He could order her to do anything. If she tried disobeying, he could make the magick collar around her neck squeeze tighter and tighter until her vision grayed and the pain became excruciating. Sheíd die, before she ever had the chance to save her sister. Aurora sensed this wolf might hold the secret that could free Emily.
But she could not let him know her true purpose here.
Robert glanced down at the document holding the details of her life. ìYour dossier says youíve never lain with a man before.î
Then he looked up and gave a smile, showing even white teeth. ìOr a wolf.î

Grab the boxed set for just $0.99 to read this story and seven othersÖ

Review: Safe at Last by Maya Banks!

Safe at Last (Slow Burn, #3)

The third book in the beloved #1 bestselling author’s sexy, romantic suspense Slow Burn series…

They say young love doesn’t last, but a girl from the wrong side of the tracks with unique abilities and the hometown golden boy were determined to defy the odds. For Zack Covington, Anna-Grace—his “Gracie”—was the one. Until one night forever alters the course of their future, when a devastated Gracie disappears without a trace, leaving Zack to agonize over what happened to the girl he loved. As the years pass, his desperate efforts to find her uncovered nothing.

Now working for Devereaux Security, he stumbles across a painting featuring a special place only he and Gracie would know. The image is too perfectly rendered for it to be coincidence. His Gracie must be alive. When he finally tracks her down, he is shocked—and heart-broken—to discover the wounded shell of the girl he once knew and still loves. Her psychic gifts are gone, and worse, she believes he betrayed her all those years ago.

Zack has enemies, and once his weakness is discovered, Gracie becomes a target for revenge. He’ll have to save her before he can earn her trust and her love. And he vows they’ll never be torn apart again.

Safe at Last was the first book I've read from Maya Banks and it will not be my last.

I felt the story was a well written and enjoyable read. The emotion the author is able to pull out in this story is amazing. I’m not that big a fan of sad stories, and this one definitely counts as both sad and intense.  But I am glad that I read it because it’s not often I read books dealing with serious issues like this one.

The novel is driven by the story and the characters discovering things that occurred in their past and I found that very refreshing, but I was missing the action and romance. It was a little slow for my taste and had a lot less romance than I hoped it would. I enjoyed the heroine, Gracie, having special powers. I really wish they were used/talked about more in the story though. (This is why this was a four star read instead of a five star read. I hear romance/action and the women's special powers play a bigger part in the previous novels, so I will definitely be picking them up.) But in the place of the hardcore romance was a bit of suspense and mystery. This really helped with the flow of the story because it made me want to keep reading.

My second favorite thing about this book besides the writing is the characters. I found all of the characters really intriguing, especially the other women and their talents. I'm really interested in picking up their books and finding out more about them.

Safe at Last is a heartbreaking and sweet story about a second chance at love. (With a beautiful HEA) I recommend it to Maya Banks fans and anyone who likes slightly dark second chance love stories!

I really hope Eliza and Wade's book is next!

 4/5

Thank you to the publisher for sending me a review copy of Safe at Last!

Now that the assignment is over, Saint wants something from me--something unexpected--and I want this wicked playboy's heart. But how can I prove to the man who trusts no one that I'm worthy of becoming his plus one?

Author Interview: Lucille Griswold!

Tell my fans a little bit about yourself and your books.
I am an individual who loves the written word.  I also enjoy working with troubled youth and use storylines in my books to highlight issues teens must deal with in society.  By highlighting these issues I hope to achieve more tolerance among individuals.

How would you introduce your books to someone that has yet to read them.

My books are proof that truth is stranger than fiction, and therefore every bit as interesting.  The books depict real life situations that coincide with the modern day world in which we live.  Instead of thinking "been there, done that" the reader walks away wondering if what is portrayed could possibly happen and in doing so they become titillated enough to want to read more.

What inspired you to start writing?  What age did you start?

I've been writing since I was a child and wrote letters to far away relatives and then in high school I was a student reporter for a newspaper.  Writing was a part of our environment, and this type of culture was my inspiration to continue writing.  I did not however write novels until much later in life.

What do you enjoy doing when you are not writing?

Well, certainly reading and then playing the piano, dancing, going to the movies - there is not much I don't like.

What advice would you give to an aspiring author?

My advice would be the same whether one aspires to be an author, or whatever field they enjoy - follow your dreams, but use practical common sense while doing so and learn how to deal with the unexpected.

What's your favorite scene/line from your works?

For me to focus on a favorite scene or quote from one of my books is like asking me to tell you my favorite child.  Perhaps what I am most proud of in my writings is the subtle advice I dispense throughout each storyline.

What's the hardest thing about writing?  The easiest?

Finding the time to write is one of the hardest things about writing that I find because I have way too many other pleasures that fill my time.  Creating a story so far has been the easiest part of writing because as I've explained before - People can look at a crowded room and see a lot of people.  I look at the people in the same room and see a story waiting to be told.

What are you currently reading?

Yesterday I finished reading Ken Follett's Edge of Eternity the last of The Century Trilogy.  Each book had about 1,000 pages of good reading.  Today I start reading another Trilogy of books about Mermaids by Daniele Lanzarotta.  My choices are eclectic!

What are you currently working on?

I am currently working on a book about a female corporate executive.  That of course tells you nothing when you get right down to the essence of the story.

What books did you read as a child?

Little Black Sambo and Mrs. Wiggly and the Cabbage Patch to name a couple.

How has your life changed since you began writing?

My life has changed a lot since my first book, but the writing had nothing to do with the changes which were part of the natural evolution of life.  As an extension of my life, writing has only enhanced it.

Do you listen to music while you write?

No. I do not normally listen to music while I write.

What's been your favorite moment as an author?

Outside of seeing the finished book in print is hearing from old friends that have taken a great interest in reading all of my books and carrying on marvelous long distance conversations with them.

Out of all your characters, who is your favorite?

If I must pick one, I'll say Susan Lavoie from Generations Apart.

What do you want readers to take away from your books?

Simple enjoyment, and while doing so maybe they will become educated in some common sense personality tips and learn the benefits of having compassion for one another.  Yes, this can happen while escaping in the reading of a fiction story.

You/re stranded on a desert island.  What books do you take with you?

Romance novels.  I might as well make the time pleasurable, and then an advice book on how to no longer be stranded on a desert island.

Favorite book character?

My favorite book character is not just one individual but any story about women who have forged a path through their suffering to make life easier for the young women of today.

What is your dream vacation destination?

Any sandy beach on the Atlantic or Pacific Ocean, the coasts of Florida or any Caribbean or Hawaiian Island.

Do you have any interesting dreams or goals?

I feel when one strives to be a better person, anticipated goals will automatically come to them in life presented to them on a silver platter.  It also might be nice to have so much money that you could give to those in need without ever having any financial concerns.

Where do you see yourself in five years?

Doing the same things I am doing today - only better.

If someone wrote a biography about you, what do you think the title should be?

Well, a book has already been written about me called Life Lived in Reverse in 2007.  Today's title might say Still Going Strong.

Where can fans find you?
