About Cat Miller:

I was born and raised in Baltimore, Maryland, and now I live not far from my birth place in Perry Hall, Maryland. I have two teenage daughters and a man that keep me busy when I'm not working full-time as a Certified Medical Coder. I'm an avid reader and I love all genre of romantic fiction from historical to contemporary to paranormal. Sleeping has always been a problem for me so most nights I can be found in the living room reading or writing instead of in bed like the rest of the world. I don't watch television. It's not a conscious decision, it just never occurs to me to turn it on when I have books to read and writing to do. It can actually be a hazard, because I never know what the weather will be until I look outside and I have to rely on my kids and coworkers for local and world news. I love creating the characters you love and love to hate. My characters remind me of people I know and people I wish I had never known.

You’re stranded on a desert island. What books do you take with you?

Oh, my! That is a tough one. I will need every book ever written by the following authors:

Anne Rice, Sherrilyn Kenyon, Maya Banks, Lauren Dane, Dana Marie Bell, Bianca D’arc, Lisa Kleypas, Sandra Brown, and Suzanne Brockmann. I could keep going but I won’t push my luck. I’d hate to be greedy.

What book(s) do you wish you would have written?

The Vampire Lestat by Anne Rice

Favorite book character?

Acheron Parthenopaeus ~ The Dark Hunter Series by Sherrilyn Kenyon (Be still my pounding heart)

What are you currently reading?

I just finished reading Fifty Shades of Grey by E L James. The last book before that was Chaos Burning by Lauren Dane. Lauren is one of my favorite writers.

Favorite moment as an author?

My favorite moments are when I get fan mail. Well, I don’t think of them as fans. I prefer to call them readers. Several times a week I get a message on Facebook or an email from a new reader who loved Unbound and wants to know when the next book will be out. It is still unfathomable to me that I have written something people want more of.

What’s your favorite scene/line from your works?

It’s a very sad scene actually. In Unbound Dani comes to a point when she realizes that her life as she knew it is gone and nothing from her human past fits with her vampire future. She mourns the loss of her high school sweetheart and the normal, uncomplicated life her human mother working so hard to provide for her in one gut wrenching, life changing, heart breaking night.

What do you enjoy doing when you’re not writing?

I enjoy spending time with my kids. I read a lot and we just bought a house in the spring so I like going to antique shops to look for things to use in the house.

Favorite movie/show?

I don’t watch TV on a regular basis. There is only one show I watch and that is The Game of Thrones.

Favorite food?

I am a foody, which means I love almost all food but I think my favorite is Italian.

Favorite color?

Purple! I am a die-hard Baltimore Ravens fan.

Chocolate or vanilla?

Yes, please, one of each.

What places would you like to visit?

I would like to take a train trip across the US and stop in as many little towns and big cities as possible. I would love to walk the streets, eat the food and visit the people from across my homeland. Then I will work on the rest of the world.

Do you have any interesting dreams or goals?

My goal is simple. I want to write and share it with as many people as I possibly can. 

Where do you see yourself in five years?

I see myself a little more established as a writer and hopefully a lot more organized. Being an

Indie writer is hard work. I hope to learn to more effective balance my “real job” and family with my writing.

If you could trade places with any other person for a week, famous or not famous, living or dead, real or fictional. with whom would it be?

Eve. I’d like to get her side of the story.

What do you consider your greatest accomplishment?

I believe my biggest accomplishment professionally has been picking myself up after the crushing disappointment of leaving my publisher and starting over as an indie from scratch. I nearly quit, but decided to give it one more try.

What advice would you give to an aspiring author?

I have two pieces of advice.

1.      My advice for other writers is to write about what you love. The hardest thing to do as a writer is to develop a character that others can relate to. When I write I live the scene and experience the emotions with my character. If you don’t feel it, neither will your reader. You have to find a subject you love and can immerse yourself in to make it believable. The biggest compliment I have ever received is that my readers laugh, rage, and cry along with my characters. They pick sides and cheer for their favorites. That is what you have to strive for in your writing.

2.      This more for the indie authors. If are to survive as an indie writer you have to write for the love of writing, not the hopes of a big publishing deal or fame and fortune.  Being an indie means putting out a great deal of your life into something that doesn’t pay back over night. If you don’t love the art of writing you will quit before it has even begun. Get a real editor and cover artist. We find ourselves in such a hurry to get our work out there that we tend to only do half the work need to be successful as a writer. Learn from those who have gone before you. Take the time to do it right the first time.

If you could be any mythology creature, what would it be?

I would like to be a vampire, of course.
