Synopsis:Seventeen-year-old Grace grows up knowing she’s different, but she always attributed it to a mother who didn’t want her, a father who abandoned her, and a curse that sets her apart. Despite those struggles, her grandfather remained her rock and confidant. Her life irrevocably shatters the day her grandfather dies.
The day of his funeral sets off a chain of events, making Grace question everything she’s ever known to be true, and as a result, who she can truly trust. She inherits his house, part of his money, his Guardian and something that ties them together.
Just before Grace’s 18th birthday, she is thrust into a world she couldn’t fathom existed and does everything she can to thwart the destiny suddenly forced upon her. She’s been chosen for greatness, but at what cost? With eyes now open, she must choose to either be Chosen, or watch those around her suffer the consequences.
Torn between the man who’s come to protect her and the one sent to destroy her, she teeters on the edge of decision, trying to come to grips with who she is, what she wants and what all of that means for her, those she loves and the rest of mankind.

Tell my fans a little bit about yourself and your books.
I am chocolate-covered raisin addict. For real. I need them like I need air. It’s bad. LOL! I love little hole in the wall book stores too. The more eclectic and run down the better. I could spend a whole day perusing the book shelves, getting lost in the history behind each book.
The Fallen from Grace series is about a girl named, Grace, who isn’t quite like other girls. Never has been. She’s dealt a lot to deal with in a short amount of time, but she gets through it. She’s not at all what she thought she was, neither is anyone around her.
How would you introduce your books to someone that has yet to read them?
“Hi, have you ever read Hush Hush, or the Mortal Instrument series? If you have, you might like the Fallen from Grace series...here.” J
What inspired you to start writing? What age did you start?
When I was about 9 years old, I was given a miniature
What do you enjoy doing when you’re not writing?
I enjoy reading. I read a ton. I somehow manage to read over 100 books a year despite the writing and deadlines.
What advice would you give to an aspiring author?
The first advice I’d say is to make sure you write every single day, especially the times you don’t want to. Second, hire yourself an amazing editor.
What’s your favorite scene/line from your works?
One of my favorite scenes is when Grace and Darius are sitting by a bonfire and Quentin texts her. I still laugh when I read the text going back and forth between them.
What's the hardest thing about writing? The easiest?
The hardest thing about writing for me is staying off the freaking internet. Did you know there is software you can download on your computer that’ll disable your ability to get on the internet during the times you tell it to so you can stay focused and work? Genius! I never used it though o.O The easiest part about writing for me is coming up with story ideas.

Worlds Apart by Kate Chase-Mathias
What are you currently working on?
I’m currently working on the 1st novella in the Fallen from Grace series and a contemporary called No More.
What books did you read as a child?
I read Judy Blume, the Babysitters Club and Cam Johnson.
How has your life changed since you began writing?
Began writing as a child, or since I’ve began with Shattered Grace? I’m going to assume the latter. My life has completely changed. The best part is all the friends I have made. There are some incredible ladies in the Indie World. I am so blessed to know them.
Do you listen to music while you write?
I can’t write unless I listen to music.
What's been your favorite moment as an author?
This might sound stupid, but it was after I setup my Goodreads author account and someone said they were a fan of mine. I about fell over in my seat. I was so excited.
Out of all of your characters, who is your favorite?
Amanda is by far my favorite for so many reasons.
What do you want readers to take away from your books?
I would love people to be able to feel like these characters and their stories are real. More importantly, I want people to see that no matter what life throws at them, there’s always a way out of it. And sometimes, situations aren’t as doom and gloom as they first appear. Have hope.
You’re stranded on a desert island. What books do you take with you?
On the
What book(s) do you wish you would have written?
I wish I would have written The City of Bones by Cassandra Clare. The Mortal Instrument Series changed my life.

“It
wasn’t your fault,” Quentin said softly as he came up behind her, touching her
briefly on the shoulder before lowering himself to sit on the edge of the coffee
table. He leaned toward her, resting his elbows on his knees as he stared into
her eyes, his expression conveying his compassion.
Grace
raised her tear-filled eyes. “It wouldn’t have happened if I wasn’t in the car
with them.” Tears spilled over her lower lids, blurring her view of Emily’s
picture glowing from the cell phone she still gripped.
“Look
at me.” Quentin lifted her face with a gentle finger. “It was my fault. It’s my
job to keep you safe and I failed.”
She
heard every word Quentin spoke, but couldn’t cling to them like he intended.
Every one of her friends could have died—because of her, not him. Visions of
caskets and grieving families had her pulse quickening. Worry festered in the
center of her chest—circling and tearing at her until what rose forth was
anger. With every beat of her heart, the anger pulsed stronger. No. In her
head, she said it again. No. The word
ricocheted like a war cry through her cerebral cortex until it owned her, heart
and soul. Energy channeled through every inch of her body. A shiver chased
behind it. Those she cared for and loved would not pay for what she was.
In
that instant, Grace felt the power of her choice thunder through her like an
electrical current. Just like Seth in the movie, she chose to be what she was
meant to be, and not to shed what she originally thought was a burden. Newly
determined, she leveled her gaze with Quentin’s.
“What
do I need to do to make sure they never hurt
anyone I love again?”
Quentin
gazed back at her, his features rearranging themselves into an expression flat
and cold—deadly. “You train and you fight back. You let me do my job. And we
don’t let them win. Ever.”
Resolve
steeled her voice. “We won’t.”
Wow! This is one of the best debut books I've read in a long time. The author is a wonderful storyteller. Two unique paranormal aspects come together to form this book, giving the reader a truly wonderful read. Angels is a given, based on the lovely cover design, but the other one may surprise you.T he pairing between the two really make the story that much more different, setting it apart from other angel stories, and made me enjoy the story even more.
Raines does a great job setting the pace for the book and letting the story build up in all the right places. It was an emotional roller coaster and the tension leading up to the first kiss was poetry in motion.
All of the characters in Shattered Grace are well developed and interesting. My favorite was Quentin. *sigh* The book is romantic, action-packed, and has a great deal of mystery and suspense! It's addicting and heart-stopping, completely captivating. The ending threw me for a loop and several things throughout the story honestly shocked me. It's not very often that an author can keep me guessing, but she did!
I cannot wait until book two comes out! I know that K. Anne is going to give us another great book.
What makes this book stand out from other angel books? In my opinion, it is better than Lauren Kate's Fallen, and also captures the same dark humor and story flow from Becca Fitzpatrick's Hush, Hush. It also deals with some very real life situations that take the book from a paranormal level, to a one most will be able to relate to.
Angels have always been one of my favorite paranormal creatures. I say definitely read this one if you're looking for a unique angel story!
5/5
