Can I just take a minute to swoon over this book? Seriously! Felicity Heaton's Her Angel series is one of my all-time favorites, so I knew going into this book I would love it. I didn't anticipate how much I would love it. I have a feeling the Eternal Mates series might just give the Her Angel series a run for its money!
As always with this author, the world building, plot, and writing are out of this world amazing. The reader will just fall into the story. Because there is so much going on- action, romance, conflict- the story plays out like a movie, completely sucking you in and transporting you someplace else. A place where there are demons, vampires, and Elves.
I am naming Heaton the Queen of Paranormal romance because she really dominates this genre, never disappointing with her fabulous stories and always finding new and creative ways to make her next one even better than the last!
Loren, the Elven prince, was a great hero. He's everything a great romance hero should be- strong, smart, loyal, and protective- with the added bonus of being a total hottie. And a prince. I really admired his loyalty to his brother. The strong need to help him and keep him alive despite all that he had done.
But what I really loved was his mate, Olivia. A character like Loren really needed a woman that meshed perfectly with him and Olivia did just that. I loved that Olivia was a scientist- a really good one- with a troubled past. The fact that she had to overcome her demons in order to accept Loren as her mate and that the reader gets to see her try and reject him really made me like her as the lead character. She goes against a lot of the typical female characters and didn't automatically jump into bed with him.
Add in amazingly combustible chemistry between the two main characters, a wide range of different species of secondary characters, an evil witch set out to cause all kinds of trouble, and you have one hell of a book! ;)
Overall, Kissed by a Dark Prince is a spectacular novel and a wonderful start to a new series. I am very much looking forward to reading the rest of the series and falling in love with these new characters.
