Hannah Livingston has the most infamous stalker that ever existed- Satan. She spent her sixth birthday with the Brethren, fighting an apocalyptic war that sent the Dark Prince back to Hell, and the rest of her life wondering if he’d be back for her soul someday. She needn’t wonder any longer.
Gabriel Seeker, Brethren Protector, spends his days and nights rescuing kids from sex traffickers and protecting their lives from further damage. He knows all too well the nightmarish world they’ve been stolen into, and it’s gotten harder to keep secret his own past horrors.
Hannah and Gabriel have always gotten along, first as friends, then as co-workers. She manages his life and he protects hers. A perfect, symbiotic relationship, so it would seem, until suppressed feelings for each other surface and forever change the landscape of their lives. Stricken with PTSD, the determined angel seeks to protect the woman he loves from Satan’s greedy and insidious clutches.
Deceit and seduction, desire and repression, collide in this epic, immortal story of love, duty, and sacrifice.
This is one of the best books in the Brethren series so far, and considering it's only part one, I'm very anxious to get my hands on part two because I know it's going to be awesome. I'm eagerly anticipating the epic good vs evil showdown now that evil has shown itself again. Will they be ready?
Angel Rising was riveting from start to finish. There is something so amazing about an author using something she is so passionate about in her story- human trafficking- something that most authors wouldn't dare write about. It was emotional and heartbreaking and adds a whole new level of depth to the story. That's one of the great things about Deena's writing. It's always done in such wonderful layers. Intense emotions, beautiful descriptions, and wonderfully woven story. They all come together to form her addictive paranormal tales. There's also always multiple battles going on, whether it's good vs evil, mental vs physical, or internal vs external.
Hannah is the most badass of all Remiel's heroines and definitely one of the most relatable. I love that at times Hannah is shown as vulnerable and scared, but never a weak character. She's very passionate and laid back and would be someone I, or any other reader could easily be friends with. With her transformation looming
And while Gabriel was not one of my favorite Brethren from the start, I really liked him in Angel Rising. The PTSD was another great thing added to the story. I love a good flawed character, especially when they are helped or healed by the woman they love. I hope we continue to see his change and growth, especially after the events at the end of part one!
Bring on part two!
