Chasing Ravens
Book # 1
By- Jessica E. Paige
Genre- YA Fairy Tale/Folklore

Orphaned at a young age, 15-year old Anouk’s punishment for being too outspoken is an arranged marriage worse than any she could imagine. Fleeing on horseback, yet without a sense of where to turn, she stumbles upon an idyllic village where she finds safe haven. Could this be home?
Ultimately, it will lead her to confront the very face of death, yet amidst the danger and darkness, she meets a handsome woodsman and finds a glowing blue flower with power beyond her wildest dreams.
Inspired by Russian fairy tales and steeped in ancient folklore, Paige’s novel is ripe with fantasy, love, and courage.

As they finished feeding, Anouk stopped at the end of the row. In an empty stall in the darkest corner of the barn grew a small linden tree. Its heart-shaped leaves were bright green, and fragrant white flowers cloaked its branches.
“How is that possible?” she asked, stepping inside the stall.
“It was here long before I was born.” Eva joined Anouk and knelt next to the little tree, putting her nose to the flowers. “Many years ago a disease spread through the stable and nearly half of the horses died. After this tree was planted, the illness never returned.”
“But it doesn’t get any rain or light,” said Anouk, looking for cracks in the ceiling. “Do you water it?”
Eva shook her head and got up as the bells began to ring for the second time. “Now it’s our turn for dinner,” she said, brushing the hay from her clothes. Anouk stood for a moment, perplexed by the little tree, and then caught up with Eva, Pip at their heels.
