Blog Tour: Ranae Rose's Hell Without You- Author Interview & Giveaway!!

HELL WITHOUT YOU by Ranae Rose – released September 5, 2013

Time changes everything, except what’s meant to be.
Seven years is a long time – long enough to transform Clementine from a small-town teenager with a broken heart into a woman ready to take on the world, but not long enough to make her forget about the man she was never supposed to see again. A temporary return to tiny Willow Heights thrusts her back into Donovan’s life and home, unearthing heartbreak and obsession that have stood the test of time.
He left seven years ago too, for war and other things Clementine can only imagine. Coming back to the town where he grew up in the shadow of poverty and drug addiction makes no sense, and neither do Clementine’s feelings for him. He could never forgive her for leaving, could he? Even if she had no choice.
Now, she has the freedom to choose … and so does he. Every day in Willow Heights makes it clearer: all he ever really wanted was her, and nothing will change that. Not even a taste of the hell that drove them apart in the first place.

Tell my fans a little bit about yourself and your books.

My name is Ranae Rose and I’m the author of over a dozen adult romances and counting. I live on the US East Coast with my husband, child, German Shepherd dogs and overflowing bookshelves. Writing and reading are lifelong passions that consume most of my time, and I’m always working on bringing the next one to life.

In addition to my many contemporary romances, I also write paranormal and historical romances.

How would you introduce your books to someone that has yet to read them?

I prefer to write what I know, placing my characters in worlds that feel real to me. No billionaires, no rich and famous – my heroes are blue collar or men in uniform, people who are extraordinary not because of their life circumstances, but because of how they’ve chosen to handle them and the love they find along the way. My books are also pretty steamy.

How many books have you written? What are their titles?

I’ve written about 20 books. They include my Inked in the Steel City Series, Half Moon Shifter Series, Sleepy Hollow Series and many more, including Hell Without You, my latest novel.

What genre have you not yet written, but would like to try?

I’d really like to include aliens in a future storyline. I guess that’d make the story a sci-fi romance.

What inspired you to start writing? What age did you start?

I’ve always loved books and have been writing since age 5 or 6. (When I started out, I mostly stuck to plagiarizing Sesame Street picture books.) I was determined to become an author since that age, and continued writing throughout my life… Let’s just say there were a lot of early efforts that will (thankfully) never see the light of day!

What do you enjoy doing when you’re not writing?

Read, of course. Besides that, I really enjoy martial arts and horseback riding, although right now I’m taking a break from both due to pregnancy.

What advice would you give to an aspiring author?

To read a lot. J

What’s your favorite scene/line from your works?

My favorite scene from Hell Without You is probably the kitchen scene, after Donovan has been sleepwalking, when they’re discussing old wives’ tales & fears about sleepwalking. I like it because it’s the moment that Clementine realizes Donovan definitely still has feelings for her.

What's the hardest thing about writing? The easiest?

The easiest thing is coming up with ideas and getting excited about a story. The hardest thing is to stop working. I have a hard time turning myself ‘off’ and relaxing instead of working or thinking about working.

What are you currently reading?

I just finished a novel and am about to choose what to read next. I have several tempting options on my kindle – it’s going to be a tough choice.

What are you currently working on?

The fourth book in my Inked in the Steel City Series.

What books did you read as a child?

Anything and everything.

What genre is your favorite to read?

Romance.

How has your life changed since you began writing?

Since I’ve technically been writing (though not necessarily well, LOL) since I was a very small child, I’m taking this question as how has my life changed since I began writing professionally. To be honest, it has changed drastically. Before I was a full-time author, I constantly struggled financially. Scraping by was very hard and I was dissatisfied with the bad area I lived in. People often talk about the financial struggles of being an author or any other type of artist, any although I’m not downplaying those realities, for me, writing full-time has provided a much better quality of life for me and my family than we ever had before. It’s wonderfully freeing and I feel very fortunate both because of the change in living circumstances and because every day, I get to work hard at the thing I’m most passionate about.

Do you listen to music while you write?

Yes. Not constantly, but it can definitely be important to my writing process, and that was the case with Hell Without You. There’s actually a complete HWY writing playlist on my site: http://www.ranaerose.com/?page_id=963

What's been your favorite moment as an author?

Whenever readers have told me they’ve enjoyed my book(s), especially face-to-face at live events. I feel unbelievably cool when this happens. LOL

Out of all of your characters, who is your favorite?

Honestly, I can’t choose, although I will say that my favorite character from Hell Without You is Donovan, the hero. I like him because he’s steadfast and honest, even when honesty is unflattering. He’s not afraid to admit what he wants and although he may have faults, he is unfailingly loyal, and to me, that is the ultimate positive quality.

What do you want readers to take away from your books?

I hope readers get wrapped up enough in my books that they feel like they’ve escaped their everyday life for a little while and lived the story instead.

You’re stranded on a desert island. What books do you take with you?

I’d like to take as many as I can hold on my kindle! ;) If that’s not an option (and I guess it’s not with no power outlets, LOL), I’d probably choose a few nice, long favorites such as Wuthering Heights and Outlander.

What book(s) do you wish you would have written?

Wuthering Heights by Emily Bronte.

Favorite book character?

Heathcliff in Wuthering Heights.

What is your dream vacation destination?

There are many places I’d like to visit but haven’t yet, such as Alaska and the Scottish Highlands.

Do you have any interesting dreams or goals?

I would love to spot a bigfoot out in the wild. (Seriously.) LOL

Where do you see yourself in five years?

Still writing full-time with many more books out … ones I haven’t even imagined yet! Perhaps with a bigfoot sighting under my belt, if I’m lucky. ;)

If someone wrote a biography about you, what do you think the title should be?

Oh God, nothing too exciting, because that would be deceptive – my biography would be pretty dull. I spend most of my time concentrating and typing quietly. Not exactly the stuff of legends. Maybe: She Told You So: The Life Story of Novelist Ranae Rose. I suggest this because I grew up wanting to be an author and have endured more eye rolling than words can express. I was often told this was unrealistic (by teachers and such) and that I should go to school for something else instead.
