Tell my fans a little bit about yourself
and your books.
I’m originally
from New Hampshire .
Shocker, I know given how laid back I am, well mostly laid back…Well ok, I’m a
spaz but I’m a funny spaz! I’m a hardcore outdoorsy girl, love working on old
muscle cars and I’m also a photographer. I’m a free spirit with lead in my
boots, and I have a massive boot obsession. Did I say Obsession? I meant
collection…Silly autocorrect…Oh wait, this isn’t an android system. Ugh.
Ok…There’s my dirty little secret. I take great pride in my heritage Celtic
Irish and Native American, as well as my writing and photography. Ok on to more
interesting stuff!
The Last Kiss
is a saucy little read, but what my readers probably didn’t know is that out of
all the stories I’ve written, that one was the most therapeutic to write.
Sometimes during life’s difficult times, words can pour out and spill onto the
pages, leaving you feeling free once again.
Raeve and Aidan
are a pair of soul-crossed lovers who find each other after years apart. Life
had thrown Raeve a nasty curveball, and with time waning, she and Aidan plan to
get over the past and start on building a new future. Can things really be that
easy?
I have a few
novels in the works, all sitting on my editor’s desk and I’m sure she’s cursing
up a storm right about now! HA! If you follow me on Facebook @ Twitter

What do
you enjoy doing when you’re not writing?
Backpacking, Hiking, Cliff jumping (Yes, I do this more often than most
people realize.) Working with horse, spending time with family, and
photographing beauty places that most of the population never knew existed.
What
advice would you give to an aspiring author?
Well, the best advice I was ever given was this. Show me your story,
don’t tell a story. You were born with five senses, engage them all when you’re
writing. If you see a chocolate bar, what does it look like? What does it smell
like? How does it taste? And always be true to you and your writing style. This
isn’t a competition, its life and we’re all in this together. Don’t be afraid
to question the norm and color outside the lines. But most importantly, when
you feel like giving up…DON’T! Your brilliance will shine through just before
you’re about to walk away. Have faith in yourself and BREATH! Rome wasn’t built in a day, and it’ll take
longer than that to write the story you envision. Most of all, have fun. Enjoy
the ride.
What’s
your favorite scene/line from your works?
Well to be honest, my favorite scene I can’t give away just yet. It’s
from The Chronicles of the Dark Angels: Darkest Before Dawn, and it would be a
HUGE spoiler! So how about I pull up a
line from my favorite short story Ginn Hunter.
Favorite Line:
Marcus to Seth
in the final scene: “Hey guys, can we get the hell out of Creepsville now? I
think a spider just crawled up my ass and no offense the hospitality here
sucks.”
Favorite Scene:
“Are you fucking kidding me? He ate you and you’re still alive? Damn, now
that’s some serious cellphone service.” he clucked.
“Ha, Ha, asshole. I’ve punched
through his stomach cave thing. I can’t cut through anymore. Come on dude, I’m
sweating my balls off here.” Marcus barked out. The tightening of his Alice like cave started
to shrink around him and air was a precious commodity.
Seth howled out a laugh as he
imagined his newbie birthing out the body of a dead Ginn. “Sure man, hang
tight. I’ll get you out.” Clicking off the cell, Seth looked back down at
Ashley, a glowing smile sliced across his face. “Baby, you might want to step
back. Seems my trainee is trapped in your father’s stomach.
“Wow! Um he actually called you
from in there?” A small snort shot out as she considered that for a moment.
Reluctantly letting him go and pacing back a few steps. “Sure babe, have at it.”
Motioning with her delicate hand to the corpse’s body, she waited for Seth to
pull out some long sword or scalpel at the very least.
“This will probably get pretty
messy. Just FYI.” he offered cautiously, crouching over the body.
What's
the hardest thing about writing? The easiest?
Well, I suppose most
would say editing, but I actually like it. Why you ask? Well to be honest and
I’m just going to lay it all out for you, I was diagnosed with adult ADD a year
and half ago. When I first dived back into writing after taking a 10 year
break, I was so anxious to get down every single word, and had a great story
line going. Funny thing is, when I started writing Ever Mine, I was on a flight
from NH to AZ and had on intended it to be a short story. 500 pages and 3
months later (and thankfully has been cut down since then) I had finished
writing my first novel. It has taken me many rounds of revisions on it to get
it the way I want it. And I’m still not there.
After it seeing the desk of a few editors, it
has finally (after 3 years) landed on the desk of my wonderful editor who has
been really (a godsend) patient with it and me. It’s great to look back and see
how much my craft has improved with each new work, but as I’m currently in the
thick of edits with this title, I’m finding myself cringing. Not because of the
story itself, but rather because my ADD was so bad when I wrote it, that it now
requires a great deal of work to get this story the way I had intended it to
be. So I appreciate the editing part. I
would have to say that the hardest part for me is writing those two little
words THE END. I think that’s why I
prefer writing series. They don’t end for a while, so I can love on my
characters for a long time!
The
easiest part of writing for me would be the creative brainstorming part. I have
a highly active imagination, find a great deal of inspiration from the beauty
outside my door, music and life itself.
*Side note* When I’m out hiking, I always carry my camera for two
reasons. 1) Because my other day job is a photographer for my stock photo
company and 2) I can use what I see as beauty and inspiration in my writing)
What are
you currently reading?
I’m currently
reading Rogue Rider by Larissa Ione and Number The Stars by Lois Lowry (reading
this with my kids)
What are you currently
working on?
Editing:
Ever Mine; Revising Eternally Mine; Writing Always Mine; Outlining Rising Sun
What
books did you read as a child?
Judy
Bloom, Any Animal books on Horse or dogs I could get my hands on. Photography
books, Babysitter’s Club series, and Stephen King…yes….Pet Cemetery
at 12 years old scared the crapola out of me. But it was worth every nightmare!
What genre is your favorite to read?
Well I do love paranormal romance greatly, but I prefer
to read Suspense and Spirituality titles the most. I love to be left wondering
and also enlightened.
How has
your life changed since you began writing?
I would say that
I’ve finally found a sense of peace in my life. I always felt that I was
different than everyone else, because I preferred being by myself, lost in my
thoughts than out partying. Now, I get to express myself in a wonderful
creative outlet, exposing my craziness for others to enjoy. I love that I can
inspire others to go for their dreams as well. After years of being told that
this pursuit was a waste of time, that I’d never make it—(not the best support
system, as you can imagine) I pushed past all that nonsense and followed
through with one achievement after another, if not for any other reason, than
to prove a lot of people wrong. I’m such a stinker like that! Once I wrapped up
writing on Ever Mine in March of 2010, I instantly felt an amazing and
overwhelming sense of pride for accomplishing something that I didn’t think I
was capable of. Since then, I’ve set many goals for myself, and with each new
achievement, and every milestone I cross, a renewed sense of pride for all I’ve
done hits home. Writing in essence has
given me a reason to strive for my dreams and a reason to enjoy something that
I’ve put many hours of love into. Regardless if my readers love it or hate (in
regards to anything I write) I’ve reached my dreams and the swell of pride I
feel for this keeps me going everyday! And I’m truly thankful for all those
that I’ve met in this crazy writing community, from authors to readers to
bloggers and so forth. The outpouring of love and support I’ve been fortunate
enough to experience since the first day I started dabbling in this writing
thing, has been so moving. I’m truly blessed to be able to do what I love to
do. If you have a dream, and you really wish to strive for it, DON’T let
anything stop you. Where there’s a will, there’s a way.
Do you listen to music
while you write?
YES! Always, I’m a music junkie and music
holds a great influence over my emotions when I’m writing certain scenes.
What's been your favorite moment as an author?
Well there’s been two favorite moments. First, seeing the
pride in my children’s eyes when they opened the box for me and saw my books
inside, as they told me how proud of me they were. That moment was priceless.
Secondly, When I read my very first review on my stand alone title The Last
Kiss, I think that’s when it hit me that I had really made it as an author.
Knowing someone actually bought it and enjoyed it enough to post a review made
everything that I’ve been working so hard for, become so real. Both equally
great feelings!
Out of
all of your characters, who is your favorite?
You would ask that
wouldn’t you! That’s a tough call. I am very attached to quite a few. I love Alix (Ever Mine) for her wit and
fierceness. I adore Ferrian (TCOTDA) as a kindred spirit that I can relate too.
Remi (TCOTDA) is just so wonderful and genuinely kind. Roc, well out of all my
characters, (Marcus~ Ginn Hunter included) is by far the biggest wiseass, and I
just adore him to pieces!
You’re stranded on a
desert island. What books do you take with you? A book on herbology, I
wouldn’t want to eat something poisonous. Archeron (Love me some ASH!) The
Chronicles of the Dark Angels: Darkest Before Dawn (Yes my own book, it made me
cry while writing it and again during revisions) and The Connection by Eric
Pearlman
Interesting Facts:
I’m addicted to gummy bears,
I love medieval weapons and collect swords, I prefer Batman over Superman (except
Henry Cavill…he’s so yummy) I’m working on plans to open a rescue sanctuary for
injured and abused horses. I’ve cliff jumped from 60 foot high peaks. I have a
strange affinity with fire and water, and I love to meditate daily.

The Last Kiss
Chapter 1
Catching a glimpse of a man with his eyes purposely purchasing a piece of the floor, he was working hard at his stoic expression while leaning casually against a pillar. Her eyes zeroed in on him, coughing to get his attention. “Nice, babe, you match the wall.” She laughed as he slid out from his hiding spot. The sinuous roll of his gait was like a hungry wolf stalking its prey. His eyes locked onto hers as his demanding strides ate up the distance between them in mere seconds. His lips curled into sinister smile, pretending he was a villain about to kidnap the town’s beauty for his own debauchery.
His deep laugh rumbled through his body like vibrations of ocean waves crashing over the fear that once resided inside his chest. His thick muscled arms wrapped around her tiny frame with ease, lifting her into the air as he crushed her body to his broad chest.
“God I’ve missed you, sweetheart!” Without another word, his lips came crashing down on hers. Like honey to a bee, Aidan sank deeply into her kiss, his greedy tongue slicing effortlessly into her mouth. She didn’t fight it, couldn’t. She’d been dreaming of this moment for weeks, and nothing was going to stop her from indulging in every second of it.
Raeve felt the rightness of being with him, staring into his beautiful ocean blue eyes, feeling his arms wrap around her for dear life. The entire world disappeared as she returned his kiss, locking her arms tight around his neck. Her heart thundered in her ears and nearly pounded out of chest as she hugged him tighter. Her lungs burned for oxygen that she willingly denied, reveling in the feel of his tight embrace. Reluctantly he released her, licking her lips for one more taste. Slowly Aidan stroked her spine, turning her into Jell-o as she saw the burning need he held deep inside. She felt the desire he had for her pressed against her stomach. The heat of his touch, as his fingertips caressed the soft line of her jaw, crushed any notions that he wanted to keep his distance, if only to save his heart.
“I’ve missed you so much, my love,” she murmured. “Now what do you say we get you home? I think we have some things to discuss that require a little more privacy.” Slipping him an impish smirk, she clasped his hand, and intertwined their fingers while walking for the exit.
“Mmm, sounds perfect,” he growled in her ear, pecking another kiss along the soft sinews of her neck. Shivers skated down her spine as his fingertips grazed down her back. Her internal fire erupted from smoldering embers to bonfire in those few first moments. Tightening her fingers around his, her blush deepened to soft crimson and her breath hitched. Pulling him down for another kiss, she wondered if she would ever tire of feeling of those luscious lips pressing against her. “You could set fire to the rain, my love,” she murmured against his mouth.
Slipping him her favorite sultry grin, Raeve imagined Aidan sprawled out on the bed, hands clasped behind his head awaiting her. The idea of his body glistening fresh from a steamy shower, lay out before her viewing pleasure, shot another fiery surge coursing through her veins.
“You’re the gasoline to my fire, sweetheart” With one devilish wink from Aidan, Raeve felt the intoxicating burn of fire lick up her body. Biting her lip to keep her intentions hidden, she couldn’t control the blush of her cheeks from deepening. “Don’t you forget that.” The deep rumble in his voice vibrated over her heated skin, resonating throughout her body like electrical currents with each word he spoke. She could never forget all the late night conversations that had lasted until the early morning hours as they remained tangled in bed. She’d rest her head against his chest as she feathered her fingertips over the hard planes of his chest, talking about anything and everything. Aidan’s deep voice intoxicated her, as syllables slid off his silver tongue with the grace of sensual poetry in motion. © 2013 The Last Kiss by M. R. Murphy
