Cover Reveal: Only For Her Dragon by Julia Mills!

Only For Her Dragon - Cover Reveal copy

Only For Her Dragon

(Dragon Guards #6)

By Julia Mills

Coming January 13th, 2015

Only_For_Her_Dragon_WEB_12012014

There Are No Coincidences...
The last bachelor in a Force of elite Dragon Guardsmen, Aaron O'Brien decided long ago that single was the only way to be. Mates and children and happily ever after were for his brethren. He alone has accepted the responsibility of stopping the traitor and restoring peace to his clan. Unfortunately, Fate didn't get the message.
The Universe Does Not Make Mistakes...
Intelligent, determined and level-headed, Dr. Charlene Gallagher has always found comfort in logic and reason. When the inexpiable jumps up and smacks her in the face will Charlie cling to her old beliefs or let go and find answers in the one man that clouds her judgment and ignites her passion?
Fate Will Not Be Denied
Nobody said it was going to be easy. The fight will be real. It will take compromise and a love created by the Universe. Only Charlie can take the leap of faith and only for her dragon...

“Oh, you know Lance, he would ask for a repeat performance.” Samantha, her best friend since forever, chuckled.
But that was the problem…
Charlie didn’t know Lance, at least not like she thought she did. And what hurt worse was that she felt like she didn’t know Sam anymore either. There had been a time when they’d shared everything. A time when the longest they could go without talking was twenty-four hours and only then there was a hurricane involved.
The guy who said ‘Life changes in the blink of an eye’ definitely knew what he was talking about. One minute Charlie had been kissing the sexiest men she’d ever met and the next she had been looking at a dragon…a freakin’ dragon.
Of course Aaron had told her to go back to the party before he sped away, but Dr. Charlene Gallagher did nottake orders. So, she had followed. Running in heels across the forest floor, Charlie had heard someone in distress. The daughter of a policeman and a trained doctor, she had rushed headlong into the clearing.
It had taken her brain a second to process what she saw. There stood Sam, alongside her new family, looking at a mythical creature. Was it still considered mythical if she’d seen it with her own eyes? That was a question she had never gotten answered.
Too much tequila…think about it tomorrow.
Charlie had done the only thing she could. She’d run…far and fast…straight to her car. Then she’d driven like Danica Patrick to her condo. Once inside with all four locks secured and the curtains drawn, she had taken her first real breath. The flood gates opened and for the next twelve hours she alternated between screaming, crying and cursing.
The sun had risen as she starred out her bedroom window, too drained to move. Sleep finally came and so did the dreams. Fortunately, her cell phone rang three hours later. Unfortunately, Sam’s name came across the display. Charlie hit ignore.
And then she hit ignore every hour on the hour for the next two days.

Hi Kristina!  Thank you so much for having me over today to celebrate the countdown for Marked to release.  I really enjoyed the interview questions!

Tell my fans a little bit about yourself and your books.

Well, I’m a former lawyer and college professor who got snowed in during our wild winter of 2009 and decided to write a book.  My books are sexy romances with a lot of action and intrigue…usually centering around a family or two.  In the Dark Protectors, the ruling family of vampires is the Kayrs family, and they’re a bunch of sexy Alpha males who fall for the smartest and most stubborn women in the world.  It makes for some nice tension.  J

What inspired you to start writing? What age did you start?

You know, I’ve always wanted to write, so when we became snowed in, I decided it was time.  Now I write dark paranormals, romantic suspense, and contemporary romances to mix it up a little.  I figured if I keep entertained, so will fans, hopefully.

What do you enjoy doing when you’re not writing?

My husband and kids are all active in sports, so it seems like I watch a lot of games.  Plus, I drive kids to practices a lot.  For fun, I hang out with friends, waterski, snow ski, and golf.

What advice would you give to an aspiring author?

Keep writing and don’t give up.  No matter what avenue you pursue to get published, you have to finish that book first, and keep on going.  Writer’s write, and it’s that simple.  J

What’s your favorite scene/line from your works?

Here’s a fun scene from Marked:

The young fighters burst through the door frame, ripping half of the wall apart. Furious hits and kicks punctuated groans and growls.
“Enough!” Zane reached down and dragged them both up by the hair.
Logan punched him in the ribs, and Zane threw him down hard. He bounced twice.
Garrett snorted and hit Zane in the knee. Zane tossed his ass down, and the vampire bounced three times.
“Let’s try again.” Zane hauled them both up again. Bruises and cuts marred their faces, while anger vibrated around them. He shoved Garrett. “You’re scaring your sister.” Then he pushed Logan the other way. “You’re pissing me off, and you ruined my cabin.”
Both young soldiers turned to view the missing wall. Snow drifted around, and the heat from the fire dissipated.
Garrett turned again, his gaze finding Janie. “How the hell could you?”
Zane stepped to block his view, his voice lowering to deadly. “Watch your tone with your sister.”
Janie scrambled to her knees and leaned around Zane. “Are you all right, Garrett?”
Garrett snarled. “Sure. The jerk here hits like a girl.” At Janie’s indrawn breath, he hastily added, “A girl who hasn’t been trained to fight.”

What's the hardest thing about writing?

The hardest thing about writing is being creative on demand and meeting deadlines.  When you sign a contract, it’s a contract, and those dates matter.  So sitting down and writing when I’d rather do anything else, even laundry, is sometimes tough.  But it’s definitely worth it, and I truly enjoy what I’m doing.

What are you currently reading?

To be honest, I just finished writing a book today, so I’ve been writing and not reading.  I finished writing MERCURY STRIKING, which is the first book in a new series out from Kensington  next year.  I did see on twitter that Jennifer Lyon has a new book cover, so  I’m hoping it comes with a new book soon.  I’ll check it out on Amazon later, because I love her books!

What books did you read as a child?

As a kid, I was absolutely obsessed with Nancy Drew and Trixie Beldon.  They solved mysteries constantly, and they also had fun lives.  I so wanted to find a diamond in a cave!

Now I write full time, so I wear a lot of yoga pants instead of suits.  J

Do you listen to music while you write?

Yes, I love music, and I create a play list for each book.  That’s part of the fun, in fact.  (Before the reality of the deadline sets in.  LOL)

What's been your favorite moment as an author?

Oh, that would have to be meeting fans or receiving emails from fans.  Sometimes we all need to escape reality for a while, and knowing my books have helped somebody to just relax and escape makes me feel really good.  I love getting fan mail!

What do you want readers to take away from your books?

This is such a great question!  I just want to entertain people so they can relax and escape for a little while.  If they’re looking to take something away, perhaps hope that life can be exciting and good, and that romance really does exist.  I know it does.

You’re stranded on a desert island. What books do you take with you?

I’d take my eBook reader, which is stocked with so many books I don’t have to choose one.  How will I charge it, you ask?  There has to be a professor around who can create a solar panel out of coconuts so I can charge my ereader.  I’m just sure of it.  J

What book(s) do you wish you would have written?

At the moment, I wish I would’ve written Outlander.  J

What is your dream vacation destination?

Anywhere it’s warm with the sun and a beach and my husband.  For extra fun, throw in my sisters and their husbands for a grown-up trip (we love our kids, but it’s nice to get away), and that’s a wonderful vacation.  We do that every couple of years or so.

If someone wrote a biography about you, what do you think the title should be?

She was Reading a Book and Fell Down a Hill.

Where can fans find you?

Thanks again for having me over today!  Here’s my contact info:

Janie’s fine eyebrows arched. “Isn’t that how you do everything? Alone?”
The soft question held a sharp edge. “No. Soldiers follow me, and I have a mother and two brothers.”
Janie began shaking her head before Zane had finished speaking. “Do you work with them or around them? Protecting them without sharing what you’re doing?” Her eyes darkened. “What you’ve done?”
Either insightful or psychic, the woman had nailed him. He removed his hand and settled back in his chair. Away from her . . . and the truth. “I do what I have to do.”
She glanced down at her hand and frowned. Taking a deep breath, she pushed off from the chair and landed between his knees, her palms on his thighs. The fire lit her from behind, turning the highlights in her auburn hair into compelling flames. “Working alone gets you killed. The people in your life, the ones who love you, they need to share in the burden. To help and to plan.”
Did she consider herself one of the people who loved him? “That’s sweet, Belle.”
Her fingers dug into his legs. “I’m not being sweet. This is smart, and you have to trust somebody at some time. Duty doesn’t always have to be painful.”
“Doesn’t it?” His voice lowered as he leaned toward her, his senses on alert. “When was the last time you shared? Stopped being a reassuring smart-ass and told somebody, anybody, how scared you are? How overwhelmed by fate?”
Her eyes dilated, and her mouth opened and closed before she pushed out words. “That’s different.”
“Is it?” Taken aback and getting pissed at her accurately profiling him, he flattened her hands under his. “Look at the position you’ve put yourself in, trying to share. You’re on your knees, as vulnerable as a woman can be.” He could break her neck without flexing a muscle. The woman needed to realize her precarious position and back the hell off.
Instead, she lifted her head and stared him right in the eye. “I do understand my position, and I do realize how dangerous you are. Yet I’m willing to take the chance, to be fragile, to show you what trust looks like. What courage can look like.”
The calm statement burned his ears and sped up the blood in his veins. She was braver than any soldier he’d ever met. Lifting his hand, he allowed himself one moment to touch the smooth skin along her cheekbone, humming at the delicate structure. “You’re so soft, Belle,” he rumbled.
She swallowed and leaned into his touch.
Heat flowed into his torso, expanding him into somebody strong enough to protect her. Determination slid just beneath his skin.
As if reading him, sadness filled her eyes. “You’re not listening.”
He helped her up and stood, backing her into the wall. “I listened.” One knuckle under her stubborn chin lifted her face. Her scent surrounded him, driving him to follow his plan. “I just didn’t agree.”
Temper brushed a muted red across her cheeks.
Ah, the pretty one usually got her way, now didn’t she? He grinned, even knowing he played with fire. “Thanks for the suggestion, though. For the record, any time you want to get on your knees, I’m there.”
The punch to the gut was expected and thus didn’t hurt. But it did deserve a response.
His mouth connected beneath her jaw, pressing a hard kiss to her neck. The simple touch nearly knocked him back on his heels. Soft and sweet, her skin felt too smooth to be real. Her head fell back, anchored by the wall, her legs parting to grant him access.
He’d conquered before, and the urge now held a resemblance to battle. To triumph and take. So badly he wanted her under him, pinned for good. Sighing his name.
He kissed down her jugular, feeling the pulse pounding. She slid her hands up into his hair, holding him in place as she plastered her soft body against his. The soft tug awoke the beast inside him. The one who scented his mate. Those incredible curves molded to his hardness, giving way and cushioning him. The driving urge to pleasure her forced him to slow down and explore. To taste and tempt, wandering up to the soft spot behind her ear.
He wouldn’t go near her mouth, because if he kissed her, he wouldn’t stop. One taste of that mouth, of her, would seal his fate.

Guest Post:
Writer’s Block aka Stumbling Block

I will always remember the comments my English Literature teacher made when handing back a piece of my course work…

‘You’re never going to be a published author,’ the teacher said, smiling, red pen in hand, ‘but that doesn’t matter, as what you’ve written will suffice.’

Although I knew the teacher was probably right due to the work being of a poor standard, I wished it hadn’t been said as it knocked my confidence, and it seemed like becoming a writer in the future was definitely out of the question.
Becoming a writer hadn’t really registered on my list of future careers, but once those harsh comments had sunk in the likelihood of this ever potentially happening was very much out of the question for me.
Writers face many challenges on the path to putting pen to paper, or in most cases now, fingers to keys, and this was the first major stumbling block that came into my path. After enduring this happenstance the urge to write fictional stories, or anything from my imagination, was totally lost to me, which I partly blame on the experience with the teacher.
But, as with most unpleasant encounters, this soon paled into insignificants, and I knew I shouldn’t let it stop me from doing something I loved.
When I started writing again, I realised that letting those teacher’s words dishearten me was foolish. It was one piece of my work and a single person’s opinion. The piece of work that I’d written wasn’t a true reflection of my writing, and was based on a question that didn’t come from my heart.
I spent the next few years experimenting with my writing, and seeing what I could potentially create. I’d written several stories before Tremor came to life. It took two years to find that comfort zone and finally feel happy with what and why I was writing. I can guarantee that this happens to the majority of writers. And I know this might sound like a hard and time consuming process, but the overall experience is well worth the effort from what you get in return.
Even if you feel like you can’t write, but you have the urge, give it a go and see where your imagination takes you. Like I’ve explained, I originally thought I’d never be able to write anything worth reading. But, I wrote. And Tremor is the outcome of this.
