Author Interview: Sara Humphreys!

Tell my fans a little bit about yourself and your books.
I am a former actress and instead of bringing one character to life, now I get to create entire worlds. I’m married to my college sweetheart and we have four sons—all teens and pre-teens. I write paranormal romance and currently have two series out there. The Amoveo Legend (my shifters) and Dead in the City (my vamps). However, I will be branching out into contemporary romance with a series called Holding Out for a Hero.

If readers want to get a taste of my Amoveo Legend series, they can download UNDENIED which is a “forever free” short story. It’s super short but will give them a taste of the world of the Amoveo.

What inspired you to start writing? What age did you start?
Since I was no longer acting and had been focusing on raising a family, I needed a new creative outlet. I actually wrote quite a bit in my youth, so I guess you could say that I’ve come full circle. I have a vivid imagination and my mother is thrilled that I’ve put it to good use.

What do you enjoy doing when you’re not writing?
Spending time with my husband and my sons is always at the top of the list. My oldest graduates high school this year, and I they are all starting to go in different directions. Quality family time is precious, so I’ll take that whenever I can get it.

If I have time to spend on my own, I love going to the movies or reading.

What advice would you give to an aspiring author?
Don’t let anyone tell you what kind of story to write. Follow your imagination and let your characters lead the way. Most of all, don’t give up. The authors who are published are published because they never stopped trying.

What’s your favorite scene/line from your works?
That’s a tough question but I’ll stick with a favorite scene from UNDONE. I have two. One is the snowmobile scene. All I’ll tell you is that the reviewers who’ve read it so far have all said something along the lines of …I’ll never look at a snowmobile the same way again.

The second is a fun exchange between Pete and Marianna. Here’s a snippet for your readers.

“What?” She asked more defensively than she intended. “Why are you looking at me like that?”

He angled his head to one side and narrowed his eyes. “I was just thinking about making love to you.”

Her breath caught in her throat as she stared back at him, too stunned to say a word. She was in big trouble.

“It’ll be incredible.” That cocky grin spread across his face and he trailed one finger tantalizingly along her jaw. “But it won’t happen until you ask me to.”

“Why you arrogant son-of-a-bitch.” Heat flashed up her cheeks and she smacked his hand away. “Screw you.”

“Ah-ah-ah.” Chuckling, he wagged his finger as he stepped around her and grabbed the bags off the couch. “You have to ask me nicely.”

--Pete Castro and Marianna Coltari--UDNONE

What are you currently reading?
Well, I’m reading a few for the FF&P RWA Prism Awards so I can’t say which ones but I can tell you that they’re good!

What are you currently working on?
I’m writing the second book in the Dead in the City vampire series and the first book in my Princes of Hell series. Both of these series are spin-offs of the Amoveo Legend books.

How has your life changed since you began writing?
I’m following my passion and doing something that I love. I feel blessed and truly happy. Life is good.

Do you listen to music while you write?
While I’m actually writing, I listen to instrumental music because lyrics are too distracting. However, when I’m thinking about my books I’ll listen to all kinds of music and get inspiration. In fact, I always post a “soundtrack” for each book on Amazon.

What's been your favorite moment as an author?
I have had a couple special moments as an author.
1.      Getting the call from my agents saying she would sign me.
2.      Getting the call that my agent sold my first series.
3.      Holding a copy of my book for the first time. Super cool

Out of all of your characters, who is your favorite?
My favorite character the one I’m writing at the moment. LOL. So right now, Asmodeus and Shane are my book boyfriends.

What is your dream vacation destination?
It’s more like a dream destination list. Scotland, Australia, Japan, Egypt, Greece…I could go on and on.
Do you have any interesting dreams or goals?
It sounds so shallow but professionally, I want to get on the USA Today and NYT Bestseller lists. Personally, I want to see my children thrive and become happy, self-sufficient adults who are contributing members of society.

  3. Great interview Sara!! I am now reading "Untouched" and I am so addicted to this series and find myself having trouble putting this book down and also being really excited to get to the next book lol.... The only one of that series that I don't have is "Undone" So if my name is chosen that is the book that I would want, and if I could get it as a nook book that would be great!!! A question, will there be more book releases in this series?
    Happy reading and writing*

  4. I didn't know you had another series out! And the covers of your books are so HOT, I may have to invest in them for my shelves. That is the only bad thing about an e-reader you miss out on the art of the book. Loved your interview, super psyched for Undone to come out!
