Order of the Blade, #9
by Stephanie Rowe
A fatal mistake stripped Zach Roderick of the powers that define him, leaving him a tormented shadow of the warrior he once was. Now, his teammate's life depends on Zach resurrecting the fire that once burned within him. As he undertakes a battle he has no way to win, he is derailed by a tempestuous beauty that awakens in him the dark desires that destroyed him once before.
The scars etched on Rhiannon Diaz's soul are so deep that she will never again be free. The once-powerful guardian is facing her last and greatest battle, and failure means a return to a sexual enslavement that is far worse than death. Her intense and passionate need for the powerful warrior who has vowed to protect her threatens the very foundation of her survival, but his refusal to abandon her drags them both into a world where wild, untamed passion rages, and surrender is their only chance.
All books in the Order of the Blade series are intended to be standalones that can be read in any order. The chronological reading order, however, is as follows: DARKNESS AWAKENED, DARKNESS SEDUCED, DARKNESS SURRENDERED, FOREVER IN DARKNESS, DARKNESS REBORN, DARKNESS ARISEN, DARKNESS UNLEASHED, INFERNO OF DARKNESS, DARKNESS POSSESSED (Available July 2014).

Tell my fans a little bit about yourself and your books.
I've been writing for about ten years, and I've been published in paranormal romance, contemporary romance, romantic suspense, teen fiction, and middle grade. My current focus is on romance, and my dark paranormal Order of the Blade series is up to nine books! I have a new vampire series coming out in October with the novel Not Quite Dead.
How many books have you written? What are their titles?
I wrote 18 complete novels before I sold my first one, and then I've had more than forty novels published, so that's a lot of books! Obviously, the list is too long for her, but some of my favorites are Darkness Unleashed (dark paranormal), Prince Charming Can Wait (contemporary), and Ghost (romantic suspense).
What genre have you not yet written, but would like to try?
I would love to write historical romance set in the Old West. I am such a cowboy fan, and there's something about those olden days of honor and survival that appeal to me. I've never written a historical, but they're my favorite genre to read. Maybe someday!
What inspired you to start writing? What age did you start?
Well, I'd always been a voracious reader, and I wrote a novel when I was ten, but I didn't decide to become a writer as a profession until I was an adult. Although I had a pretty good job, it wasn't fulfilling my heart, and I started investigating other possible careers. I spent two years doing books like "What Color is My Parachute?" and other career-related activities, but I simply couldn't figure out what I wanted to do. Then, one day I received the alumni magazine from my college. The cover story was about two students who had written a thriller and then gone on to sell movie rights. As I read the story of their journey from struggling unpublished authors to a book deal, I became more and more excited. By the time I finished the article, I knew that was what I wanted to do. I didn't tell anyone in case I changed my mind, but I started to write my first book that night, and I loved every second of it. I knew then that this was my future. It took 18 books before I finally sold my first book, but I never gave up because I knew that was what I wanted to do.
What do you enjoy doing when you’re not writing?
I love hiking with my dog. There's something so incredibly uplifting about being out in nature, inhaling the fresh air, while being escorted by my dog. I never miss a day.
What advice would you give to an aspiring author?
Take the time to learn your craft and the business before submitting or self-publishing. It's so easy now to hit the "publish" button and put your book out in the world, but just because you can doesn't mean you should. My first eighteen books didn't sell because they weren't good enough. Oh, sure, I thought they were good enough, but they weren't. If self-publishing had been an option back then, I probably would have done it, but I'm so glad I didn't have that choice. If you put a subpar book out, readers will never forget and they will often not give you another chance. Make sure your work is ready before putting it out there. Enter contests and submit to agents. Until you are finalling regularly and getting requests for fulls from agents, your work isn't ready.
What's the hardest thing about writing? The easiest?
The hardest thing is having to self-confidence to believe that I can do it. Every day I sit down at the computer, a little seed of doubt whispers in the back of my mind, wondering whether I can really do it. After so many books, you'd think that I'd know that I always figure out the story, but I never relax until the first draft is actually finished and I know that I did it.
What are you currently working on?
I am working on the first draft of Not Quite Dead, the launch book for my new NightHunter vampire series.
What books did you read as a child?
All of them! I was a voracious reader. One of my favorite series was James Herriot's veterinarian series. I loved those books so much. The tattered copies are still on my bookshelf all these years later.
What genre is your favorite to read?
Historical romance or paranormal romance.
Do you listen to music while you write?
Nope. It distracts me. When I write, I become so immersed in the story that it's almost as if I am living it. If music is playing, it pulls me out of the story.
What's been your favorite moment as an author?
There are lots of little moments. Getting a great review or fan letter. Finishing a book. I haven't that that perfect moment yet. Someday!
Out of all of your characters, who is your favorite?
The one that sticks with me the most is Ryland Samuels, from Darkness Unleashed. He is so tormented and carries such an immense burden, and yet he never lets go of the goodness in his soul. He's truly an amazing character.
What is your dream vacation destination?
A small town in Ireland. It doesn't matter which one. Any of them will do!
Do you have any interesting dreams or goals?
I would like to change the world and take away all emotional suffering from everyone, so they feel only peace in their hearts, no matter what they are going through. I know, it's a lofty goal, but I really want to make it happen.
Where do you see yourself in five years?
Taller, thinner, with better eyesight. A girl can dream, right?
If someone wrote a biography about you, what do you think the title should be?
The Girl Who Wanted to be a Goddess
